Are Berets The New Black?

I know the question “are berets the new black?” is a little reaching seeing as black will always be black and berets are well, just berets. But the return of this accessory to the fashion world and the sudden obsession over this headpiece has caused me to wonder.

I’ll be the first to admit that it took me a while to jump on the wagon. For someone who doesn’t pay mind to trends, I’m not slightly mad about it. Infact, I now wish I embraced it sooner.

Oddly, I’ve always felt like a fraud imitating the lifestyle of the French. From my undying love for a good baguette to living on the edge of minimalism, I’ll admit that I have the secret desire to be as cool.

But lately, I’ve been reading one too many quotes from the book “How To be Parisian wherever you are” and somehow I found myself checking out of a store with a beret in one hand and a receipt in another.

Even though I was of the thought that wearing a beret was simply trying too hard, I’ve come to realize it’s quite the opposite. It is the perfect accessory, even for the days you don’t feel like trying at all.

For this look, I’ve paired the beret with a turtleneck, white wrap skirt and red over the knee boots. I love the contrast of red against monochrome, and truthfully I’ll be sporting this colour all spring!
